Ras Al Barr Resort

Ras al-Barr is a city and resort in Damietta Governorate, northeastern Egypt. It overlooks the Mediterranean, at the mouth of the Damietta River, one of the tributaries of the Nile, in front of the manor. It is inhabited by about 25,000 people, and in the summer season, from July to September, its population increases to more than 250,000. There is the head of the mainland, the confluence of the River Nile and its estuary in the Mediterranean, which is known as the tongue. Interest in her began in 1828 when she was admired

by princes of the family of Muhammad Ali

History

The late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser in Ras El Bar.The history of Ras al-Barr started from 1823, when the Sufi religious sheikhs and their followers in Damietta were marching in their entirety to the north with the Nile to celebrate the birth of Sheikh Al-Jarbi in the Al-Jarbi region south of Ras al-Barr. The merchants came to Ras al-Barr to meet their ships returning from their trips and here they saw the first vanguards of the resort represented in these mystics and everyone continued in this quiet beautiful place that breathes in the breath of meditation and reassurance of worship.

Some families also used to go out on summer days in sailing ships on the Nile and dock in front of Ras El Bar. They spent the day on picnic, fishing and sports, so their air separated them and they built cottages from the inventory of the papyrus.

In the year 1865, Ras Al-Bar took a vacation and graded it with a few scattered nests made of papyrus confining to organized rows between the Nile and the sea, and then to a nest set up on floors of wood and construction. In 1883, the head of the mainland came to the German world, a hut. In 1891, a Frenchman named Balkan and a French woman named Courtel created a restaurant and bar near Sheikh Youssef Tabieh. He also established the first high-end hotel in front of Al-Fanar, in the middle of the resort, to attract vacationers and pay others to build a number of other hotels.

In 1902, I put to the resort the first simple engineering map showing the nest sites, numbers, markets, and others. And his land lease report. And lighting his roads with lanterns and running Nile boats to transport holidaymakers and mail from Damietta to Ras al-Bar and back.

Ras El Bar summer resort was a temporary season with only four summer months. And its facilities were built when the summer rains for a period of two weeks, and it becomes a small city with other modern cities. If the summer is managed, its features will be removed, and it will return to an area free of sand exposed to the tide of the sea, overshadowed by its waves, covering it, washing it and preparing it to receive a new, clean and pure summer.

In 1938, the Ports and Lighthouses Authority established a dock of reinforced concrete (tongue) length of 250 meters and a width of two and a half meters to prevent the northern coast from erosion.

Vacationers on the mainland increased during the outbreak of the First and Second World War, and people refrained from leaving the country to external resorts, so the popularity increased and many improvements were made to the resort.

Urbanism and its facilities and services began creeping into the resort and it became an aristocratic summer resort for senior citizens, economists and politicians, intellectuals, artists and writers. Over the years, it has become a summer resort for all people of all classes

Old buildings were called "the nest" because they were erected on a raised wooden floor carried on wooden legs and their walls are erected using "the dam" and "the Cape", which is from the dry jungle and the little papyrus "Cape" and mats. Nest nesting begins at the beginning of the summer season in May every year and this nest is broken down after the end of the summer season in September.

Ras El Bar was distinguished as being the summer resort for the most famous artists, including Mrs. Umm Kulthum.Currently, nests are not built with the same materials, of course, but only the name is preserved, but the building is different. Tourism is booming in Ras El-Barr in the summer season, due to its ruins from the east on the Nile, which are surrounded from north to west by the waters of the Mediterranean, so it is considered one of the best summer resorts in Egypt
